''Resonances'' in $sup 12$C($sup 12$C,$alpha$$)$$sup 20$Ne and $sup 12$C($sup 12$C,$sup 8$Be)$sup 16$O reactions at about 37 MeV

Angular distributions and excitation functions for $sup 12$C($sup 12$C,$alpha$$)$$sup 20$Ne and $sup 12$C($sup 12$C,$sup 8$Be)$sup 16$O have been measured around E/sub $sup 12$C/(c.m.) =18.5 MeV, where strongly correlated structure for both reactions has been reported. Both ground-state angular distributions are dominated by a single angular momentum; for $sup 12$C($sup 12$C,$alpha$$)$$sup 20$Ne/sub g.s/ the dominant angular momentum is l=10, while for $sup 12$C($sup 12$C, $sup 8$Be/sub g.s./)$sup 16$O/sub g.s./ it is l=12. Hauser- Feshbach calculations reproduce the shapes of the angular distributions; the dominant angular momenta are the grazing partial waves in the outgoing channels. (AIP)
