SOME ASPECTS OF DISPERSION HARDENING IN THE URANIUM-URANIUM OXIDE SYSTEM

Journal Article · · Planseeber. Pulvermet.
OSTI ID:4064893
Dispersion hardening of uranium with finely divided UO/sub 2/ particles has been shown to produce a material with good hot indentation hardness, hot bend strength and resistance to deformation during alpha to beta thermal cycling. It is reasonable to expect such a material to have good high temperatare creep strength as well. Irradiation testing will permit a fuller evaluation of the ability of this material to undergo burnups of greater than 0.3% at temperatares in excess of 5OO deg C (932 deg F), which is the present limitation on unalloyed wrought uranium.
