Prompt fission neutrons from eV resonances in $sup 235$U: Measurement and correlation with other fission properties

The energy dependence of the fission neutron multiplicity nu-bar for neutron-induced fission of $sup 235$U in the energy region 0.5 to 125 eV has been measured using a continuous spectrum of neutrons from a 100 MeV electron Linac. A new neutron detection technique was used to search for variations in resonance nu-bar values and possible correlations with other fission properties. Evidence was obtained for a nonstatistical fluctuation in the value of nu-bar as a function of energy. However, no correlation with resonant spin GAMMA/subf/, fission-fragment asymmetry, or the angular distribution of fission fragments was observed. A comparison of these data with previous nu-bar measurements also has been included. (AIP)
