Comment on a dynamically exact classical description of Coulomb excitation of very heavy deformed nuclei

Journal Article · · Physical Review. C, Nuclear Physics
On assumption of an interaction model, a classically exact description is used to investigate the Coulomb excitation of rotational levels of very heavy deformed nuclei. We examine the suddenness of the excitation, the highest classically allowed spin to which the target can be excited, and the deviation from the Rutherford orbit of the projectile. Our calculations show that the perturbative method recently discussed by Rowley and Colombani is on the whole accurate. We do obtain a reduction of up to 4h-bar of their values for classically allowed maximum spin excitable in the target. (AIP)
