EQUATION OF STATE FOR PARAHYDROGEN

Journal Article · · Cryogenics (England)
A pressure-explicit equation of state is presented for parahydrogen describing the experimental data of Goodwin, Diller, Roder, and Weber, which consist of over 1,200 points ranging between 2 and 365 atm, 19 and 100 deg K, and 0.0011 and 0.044 moles/cm/sup 3/. The equation is a modification of that of Hirschfelder, Buehler, McGee, and Sutton and is divided into different expressions for the three regions representing low density gas, high density gas, and liquid. The equations for the three regions are continuous at their boundaries through the second partial derivatives of pressure with respect to density and temperature. Besides relatively high accuracy, the proposed equation of state possesses reasonable extrapolation properties, and is of a form that allows analytical integration of the theoretical expressions for thermodynamic properties such as enthalpy, entropy, and internal energy.
