Observations of magnetohydrodynamic rarefaction waves

Transverse magnetohydrodynamic rarefaction waves in a fully ionized deuterium plasma have been studied and measurements of the electron density as a function of time are compared with theoretical predictions. The agreement is good. (AIP)
