THE ENERGY LEVELS OF $sup 22$Na AND NEUTRON PRODUCTION IN STARS

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
BS>The energy levels of /sup 22/Na up to an excitation of 7.88 Mev were measured by magnetic analysis of the /sup 24/Mg(d, alpha )/sup 22/Na and /sup 23/ Na/(/sup 3He/ alpha )/sup 22/Na reactions. The assignment of the second T = 1 state is discussed. In connection with the /sup 21/Ne( alpha n)/sup 24/Mg reaction as a source of neutrons in stars, it is shown that there are at least two and possibly four resonances in the /sup 21/Ne(p, gamma )/sup 22/Na reaction at stellar temperatures.
