PHASE EQUILIBRIUM OF CRYSTAL-LIQUID INBINARY SYSTEMS OF ZrCl$sub 4$, HfCl$sub 4$, SnCl$sub 2$, ZnCl$sub 2$, AND BiCl$sub 3$ (in Russian)
The liquidus phase temperatures for ZrCl/sub 4/, HfCl/sub 4/, SnCl/sub 2/ , ZnCl/sub 2/, and BiCl/sub 3/ were determined. It was found that ZnCl/sub 2/ Zr(HF)Cl/sub 4/, BiCl/sub 3/- Zr(Hf)Cl/sub 4/, ZnCl/sub 2/- SnC/sub 2/- ZrCl/sub 4/ are eute ctic systems in which an incongruently melting compound SnCl/sub 2/ - 2ZrCl/sub 4/ is formed. The SnCl/sub 2/-HfCl/sub 4/ system is related to the SnCl/sub 2/ - 2HfCl/sub 4/ compounds, which melt congruently at an intermediate point. Congruently melting BiCl/sub 3/ 2SnCl/sub 2/ is formed in the SnCl/sub 2/- BiCl/sub 3/ system. It was also found that SnCl/sub 2/ has good solvent properties for zirconium and hafnium tetrachlorides. Hence, SnCl/sub 2/ and eutectic ZnCl/sub 2/ may be used for ZrCl/sub 4/ and HFCl/sub 4/ separation by extractive rectification. (R.V.J.)
