RADIATION DECAY OF CHARGED $pi$ MESON (in Russian)

The radiative decay pi - mu for S and P variation in direct interaction was previously investigated considering the anomalous magnetic moment of mu . Calculations were made of polarization and angular distribution of decay products. The decay pi - e for the same variation was also studied without consideration for particle polarizatlon and anomalous electron magnetic moment. Calculations show that the terms stipulated by the magnetic moment at nearly equal numerical coefficients are proportional, m/sub sub p//sub i//m/ sub sub m//sub m/ for pi - mu and m/sub sub p//sub i//m/sub e/ for pi - e. Hence, their contribution in the second decay will be more pronounced than in the first. The derived generalized expression for pi - mu probability holds also for pi - e when the mu maguitudes are replaced by e. The analysis indicated that nonrelativistic approximation of mu in pi - mu and relativistic approximation for e in pi - e does not change the general results. Assuming that pi decays according to pi - e + nu + gamma , it is shown that the most probable decay takes place when e and gamma are emitted in the same direction; decay with e and gamma emitted in opposite directions is most improbable.
