THE INFLUENCE OF RADIATION IN ALTERING THE INCIDENCE OF MUTATIONS IN DROSOPHILA . Progress Report on the Past Twelve Months and Renewal Proposal for the Period September 15, 1961 to September 14, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4058562
Results are reported from studies on the relation between the dose rate at which gamma radiation from a Co/sup 60/ source is delivered and its effectiveness in inducing lethal mutations in oogonia of Drosophila melanogaster. Results are included from preliminary studies on dose rate effectiveness of neutrons in inducing lethals in oogonia of Drosophila, the relation between the dose of x radiation and the frequency of don-disjunction in the germ cells of Drosophila females, and the genetic aspects of somatic damage induced by irradiation in Drosophila. Data are tabulated on the frequencies of recessive lethals induced with the X chromosome of Drosophila. A list is included of publications by staff members during the period covered. (C.H.)
