A process is described for obtaining deuterium-enriched hydrogen compounds in which an azeotropic mixture of nitric acid and water is distilled under reflux to set-up counter-current liquid-vapor extraction conditions between the ascending vapor phase and the descending liquid phase. The deuterium- enriched concentrate is removed in the overhead product, and the nitric acid in the deuterium depleted acid residue is recovered and recycled as an azeotropic mixture. (R.E.U.)
