Fly Ash is the waste product of coal combustion carried through the flue gas stream in coal fired electric power generating facilities. Normally it is collected in either baghouses or electrostatic precipitators and from there sent to some form of disposal system. Usual disposal means include sluice systems to ash ponds or through some intermediate storage facility to conditioning or wetting systems for haul truck delivery to landfill. Recently, fly ash of an acceptable quality has been found to be a beneficial additive in the production of concrete, flowable fills for the asphalt industry as well as road bed filler materials. Other potential uses for fly ash continue to be evaluated.
