Excitation functions have been obtained between 80 and 155 Mev for reactions (p,9n) and (p,10n) induced on /sup 159/Tb. Comparison with computations based on direct interactions (p,xn) with x = 0, 1, 2, or 3, followed by evaporation of j neutrons shows that the choice of variation of nuclear temperature as a function of excitation energy is unambiguous. The effect on the de-excitation of the angular momentum given to the nucleus by protons is of small importance, compared to what has been observed when heavy ions produce the same residual nuclei /sup 150/Dy and /sup 151/Dy.
