The behavior of tetravalent protactinium on anion exchange resins has been compared to that of Pa/sup 5+/, Th/sup 4+/, and U/sup 4+/. Pa/sup 4+/, just as Th/sup 4+/, is almost completely unretained in even concentrated hydrochloric acid on the anion resins Dowex-1 and Amberlite kR-401. Pa/sup 5+/, on the contrary, is strongly adsorbed, as is U/sup 4+/, in a sufficiently acid medium (6 N HCl or more). (tr-auth)
