IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO STEELS FOR USE IN NUCLEAR REACTOR STRUCTURES

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4052782
An austenitic steel is described which has a reduced tendency toward corrosion mass transfer and shortened life in a reactor. The steel differs from other austenitic steels in that it includes a rare earth, either Ce, Pr, and/ or Nd. The composition of the steel is: 0.03 to 0.04% C, 0.3to 0.6% Mn, 0.005to 0.007% S, 17.0to 19.0% Cr, 0.35 to 0.4% Si, 0.010to 0.020% P, 0.05 to 0.15% Mo, 7.0 to 11.0% Ni, 0.0001 to 0.05% rare earth, and balance Fe.
