S>Convection effects were studied in nucleate, transition, and film boiling. Organic liquids in a low pressure system were used since their peak boiling flux is 1/10 to 1/5 that of water. Tests show that the surface temperature in a nuclear reactor will surge from a peak nucleate value to a much higher one in film boiling at a slightly higher heat flux. When decreasing the flux below the minimum point, the temperature will drop suddenly and low nucleate boiling will occur. An expression was developed to correlate forced-convection peak nucleate boiling. (N.W.R.)
