With respect to dependable operation with Geiger-Mueller tubes, the essential properties of this type of counter are explained. After a discussion of the plateau properties, the optimum operating voltage is considered. The effect of temperature on the plateau properties is then described. The zsro effect and the coupling of G-M tubes to electronic imput circuits are discussed. (tr-auth)
