Aqueous systems and geothermal energy
Studies on the hydrolysis of cations, including mononuclear and polynuclear hydrolysis species and their stability constants in aqueous solutions are reviewed. Data on the solubility of oxides and hydroxides are included. Results of chronopotentiometric measurements of the diffusivity of Cd$sup 2+$ in hydrous melts of Ca(NO$sub 3$$)$$sub 2$ at various temperatures and concentrations of water are given. Exploratory studies on a 100-gpm titanium loop being remodeled for investigating the formation of silica precipitates and their properties as a function of brine composition, temperature, and flow conditions are reported. Data on the solubility of silica in water as a function of temperature agreed reasonably well with that in the literature. Initial results of studies on the ionization of water in NaCl solutions and the ionization and polymerization of silicic acid are reported. (JGB)
