POWER PLANT SYSTEM AND METHOD OF OPERATING THE SAME
A power plant system, which has an overall favorable heat rate, which develops superheated steam that is delivered to the turbine, and which employs a nuclear reactor as the heat source, is described. The power generating system employs, in addition to a reactor cooled and moderated by a hydrogeneous fluid, such as water, a vapor-operated prime mover. The heated hydrogeneous coolant- moderator fluid is conveyed from the reactor and passed in indirect heat exchange with a fluid to be vaporized. The coolant-moderated fluid is returned subcooled to the reactor. The vapor produced by the indirect heat exchange is superheated by passing it in indirect heat exchange relation with the vapor phase of the hydrogeneous fluid. This superheated vapor is then conveyed to the turbine. (M.C.G.)
