With the soft X-ray detector aboard the Astronomical Netherlands Satellite (ANS) we have searched for soft X-ray emission in the range 0.2--0.284 keV from hot stellar coronae. X-ray emission has been detected from Capella ($alpha$ Aur) and Sirius ($alpha$ CMa). For 26 other stars (main sequence, subgiants, giants, and supergiants) upper limits to the X-ray luminosity have been obtained. The physical conditions of a corona needed to explain the observations are discussed. (AIP)
