PRODUCTION OF Lu$sup 178$ BY THE Ta$sup 181$(n,/cap alpha/)Lu$sup 178$ REACTION IN THE NRX REACTOR

Journal Article · · Canadian Journal of Physics (Canada)
OSTI ID:4049989

A rare earth activity of half life 19 plus or minus 1 min, produced by irradiating tantalum in the fast neutron flux of the NRX reactor was shown to be a lutetium nuclide. The 19 plus or minus 1 min activity was ascribed to Lu/sup 178/ produced by the Ta/sup 181/(n , alpha )Lu/sup 178/ reaction. Three gamma rays of 450 plus or minus 15 kev, 320 plus or minus 15 kev, and 680 plus or minus 15 kev (very weak) are associated with Lu/sup 178/. (auth)
