Section IH of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code: Rules for Construction of Nuclear Vessels is discussed. The history, membership, and policy of the Special Committee on Nuclear Power of the ASME, which drew up the rules, are described. The new code divides nuclear vessels into three classes: Class A vessels, which form part of the reactor coolant system, Class B vessels, which are containment vessels, and Class C vessels, which are all other vessels. Speciai requirements for inspection of Class A vessels are discussed in some detail. (auth)
