Deteriorated sealing performance of pipe flange connections is attributable to separation of contacting surfaces between flanges due to high internal pressure or external bending load. In the previous paper, a design concept of a pipe flange connection having self-sealing performance was demonstrated and it was shown that the pipe flange connection has excellent sealing performance under combined loads of internal pressure and external bending moment. However, for simplicity, neither gaskets nor sealants were used in the experiments. For practical application of the self-sealing pipe flange connection, anaerobic sealants were used between the flanges and the sealing performance was tested in this study. Comparisons concerning sealing performance between the self-sealing flange connections and conventional flange connections were made. It is shown that the self-sealing flange connection with anaerobic sealants has the highest sealing performance under combined loads of internal pressure and external bending moment.
