THERMODYNAMICS FOR THE EXTRACTION OF URANYL NITRATE AND NITRIC ACID BY ORGANOPHOSPHORUS COMPOUNDS (in Japanese)
The thermodynamic quantities, DELTA F, DELTA H, DELTA S, and DELTA C for the extraction of uranyl nitrate and nitric acid by a series of organophosphoric compounds are obtained. The compounds are R/sub 3/PO, (RO)R/sub 2/PO, (RO)/sub 2/RPO, (RO/sub 3/)PO, and (RO)/sub 2/HPO, in all of which R is an n-butyl group. The substantial changes in DELTA F and DELTA H are shown as replacing an n-butyl group successively by an n-butoxy group. The values of DELTA S for the uranyl nitrate extraction remain approximately at a constant of -- 8 to --9 eu, irrespective of the types of extractants and their diluents, but those of DELTA S for the nitric acid extraction vary from +1 to -38 eu, depending on the diluents used. When the values of DELTA H for the extraction of uranyl nitrate are plotted against the values of DELTA H for the extraction of nitric acid in a series of extractants, a straight line is obtained. It is also shown that there is a linear relationship between the values of DELTA H and the stretching frequencies of the phosphoryl group of the extractant, which is bonded with uranyl nitrate or nitric acid. The values of DELTA F/sub 0/, DELTA H/sub 0/, and DELTA S/sub 0/ are calcula ted by extrapolating both the ionic strength in an aqueous phase and the concentration of tri-n-butyl phosphate in an organic phase to zero.
