CONSTRUCTION OF A TRANSFORMER WITH SUPERCONDUCTING WINDINGS (in French)

The specific power and the losses of a transformer with superconducting windings were analyzed. An improvement of the specific power by a factor of about 200 over that of a transformer with conventional windings is indicated. A small transformer with Nb- Zr windings in a liquid He bath was constructed. The electrical efficiency for a transmitted power of 2 kw was greater than 99% with a power loss in the He of 0.4 w. (D.C.W.)
