Nuclear Reaction Studies. The design, operation, and calibration of a particle spectrograph are described. Measured total cross sections and interaction radii are given for the three highest-energy proton groups from ( alpha ,p) reactions with F/sup 1//sup 9/, Na/sup 2//sup 3/, Al/sup 2//sup 7/, and Si/sup 2//sup 8/. Preliminary data on the largeangle scattering of 18.6-Mev alpha particles by C/sup 1//sup 2/ are re ported. Angular Correlatiun ard Mossbauer Effect Studies. The results of experiments done on the beta - gamma correlations of beta transitions are reported for K/sup 4//sup 2/, Sb/sup 1//sup 2//sup 2/, Sb/sup 1//sup 2//sup 4/, and Au/sup 1//sup 9//sup 8/. The beta - gamma directional correlations were measured in the decays of Ga/sup 7//sup 2/, La/sup 1//sup 4//sup 0/, and Eu/sup 1//sup 5//sup 2/. Tables are prese nted for analysis of beta - gamma angular correlation data for first-forbidden beta transitions. The transverse polarization of conversion electrons following the beta decay of Au/sup 1//sup 9//sup 6/ was measured. A theoretical discussion of the influence of a combined magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole interaction on angular correlations is presented. Nuclear Spectroscopy. An activity with a half life of 1.03 plus or minus 0.06 sec was found in the products of neutron bombardment of Mg and is probably Na/sup 2//sup 6/ produced by the Mg/sup 2//sup 6/(n,p) reaction. Studies of radiations from Si irradiated with 8-Mev He/sup 3/ ions revealed an activity with a half life of 1.35 plus or minus 0.10 sec, which is assigned to the decay of S/sup 3//sup 0/ produced by the reaction Si/sup 2//sup 8/(He/sup 3/,n). An activity with a half life of 3.27 plus or minus 0.20 sec found in neutron bombardment of Si is assigned to A1/sup 3//sup 0/. Work on the positron decay of Y/sup 8//sup 8/ is reported. Experiments on the decay of In/sup 1//sup 1//sup 0//sup m/ Ag/sup 1//sup 0//sup 6/ and Rh/sup 1//sup 0//sup 6/ are summarized. The preparation of Au-Si surface barrier charged- particle detectors is described. (D.L.C.)
