THE RAYLEIGH-TAYLOR INSTABILITY OF A ROTATING COMPRESSIBLE CONDUCTING FLUID IN THE PRESENCE OF A MAGNETIC FIELD

Journal Article · · Proc. Natl. Inst. Sci. India, Pt. A
OSTI ID:4037437
The Rayleigh-Taylor instability of a rotating compressible conducting fluid in the presence of a magnetic field was investigated. It is found that for a stable configuration the magnetic field and rotation both enhance the critical wavelength of the perturbation that gives rise to Rayleigh modes, while for an unstable configuration a magnetic field enhances the critical wavelength whereas rotation decreases this critical wavelength.
