The results of a seismic assessment of Building 332 at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) are summarized in this paper to demonstrate the application of using experience data to the seismic qualification of mechanical and electrical equipment. The seismic assessment was performed to (1) identify the list of SSCs for the assessment, (2) review the adequacy and applicability of existing documents, (3) conduct seismic walkdowns, (4) conduct seismic qualification using only simplified methods such as seismic experience data, simple calculations, and engineering judgment, and (5) recommend solutions for corrective actions including facility upgrades and further evaluation. The assessment indicates that, in general, Building 332 (with its building structure and mechanical and electrical equipment) is inherently rugged and does not have any structural concerns during and after an evaluation basis earthquake (EBE). However, to further enhance the seismic safety of the facility based on good engineering practice, a list of seismic corrective actions were recommended to strength the seismic adequacy of the facility.
