More reactive catalyst as well as the need for increased efficiencies and decreased emissions have led to the development of temperature monitoring systems with greatly increased capabilities. Subjects considered are limitations of conventional systems, point density, discreteness of measurement points, accuracy, response time, safety, financial return and enhanced process control with resulting improved operator confidence and expanded diagnostic capabilities. Operational experience by two different hydrocracker licensers is discussed.
