Process and column pinch analysis tools can improve the design of fluid catalytic cracker vapor recovery units (FCC/VRU). Part 1 covered the design of a modern FCC/VRU. Also discussed were pinch analysis tools including the process grand composite curve (GCC), column GCC and column lost work profiles. These tools were then applied to different areas of the FCC/VRU, such as the main fractionator, absorber/stripper system and debutanizer. This paper discussed utility performance targets and the use of pinch analysis to design heat exchanger networks.
