SURFACE-BARRIER COUNTERS WITH PROTECTIVE ELECTRODES (in Russian)

The design is given of a simple surface-barrier counter using silicon and germanium detectors and equipped with an auxiliary electrode. Located nt a short distance from the main electrode, the auxiliary prevents current leakage and extracts current carriers generated by photons in the interval between the main and auxiliary electrodes. With metallic electrodes of 0.1 mu thickness, the counter is insensitive to light. The resolving power of 100-mm/sup 2/ detectors was 5% for 5.3-Mev /sup 210/Po alpha particles. (R.V.J.)
