The Th/sup 230//U/sup 238/ method of dating was applied to coral c ore samples from Muzinkarikku Island, to shells from Californian marine terraces, and to Greenland shells. The results are compared with those from the C/sup 14/ dating method. The conditions required for the Th/sup 230//U/sup 2/3/sup 8/ method to be valid ar e discussed. (D.J.C.)
