DETERMINATION OF RADIOACTIVITY IN AUSTRIA. MEASUREMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL RADIOACTIVITY OF FOOD IN 1961

Journal Article · · Mitteilungen der Oesterreischen Sanitaetsverwaltung (Austria)
OSTI ID:4032574
In the first, second, and third trimester of 1961 radioactivity was extremely slight. During the nuclear tests in the autunm of 1961, up to the end of the year, the radioactivity of the air, drinking water, and food was a slight percentage of the maximum permissible value. In cistern water the concentration of total beta activity sometimes exceeded the maximum permissible value. Various radioactive isotopes were estimated individually: radioactivity of the biologically dangerous isotopes was below the maximum permissible value. Unlike Germany and Switzerland, Austria has many cisterns and so the drinking-water requirements can be met almost completely from underground water and springs. (Public Health Eng.
