The behavior of calcarenite, which is a cemented calcareous and found in many offshore environments around Australia and other parts of the world, is of intense interest due to its importance in the foundations of offshore structures needed for oil and gas recovery. Such cemented sands are subject to degradation, which is a critical factor in their engineering behavior. The relevance of constant normal stiffness direct shear testing of interfaces between concrete and cemented calcareous sands under both monotonic and cyclic conditions to offshore foundations is discussed, and a new approach to the prediction of foundation performance in these materials is presented.
