Changes of yield locus of sand due to undrained shearing and AE measurement

Conference ·
OSTI ID:403137
The yielding behavior of sand under undrained loading was studied by performing a series of triaxial tests, and, during the triaxial test, Acoustic Emission, AE, of soil was measured to define the yield stress. By using AE measurement, the yield loci of isotropically consolidated specimens are first determined for two different sands and then the changes of these yield loci are studied by subjecting the isotropically consolidated specimens to a cycle of undrained compressive loading. Two sands having different compressive characteristics are used in the experiments, and it was found that, the more compressive the sand is, the larger the reduction in the size of yield locus becomes after a cycle of undrained loading.
