ON THE ACCURACY OF LINEARIZATION APPROXIMATIONS FOR SINGLE-CLOSED-SHELL NUCLEI

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4031147
The energies of levels with spins of 5/2, 3/2, and 1/2 were calculated in the quasi-particle random phase approximation and its limiting case, the Tamm- Dancoff approximation, in which the ground-state correlations are neglected. The results were compared with exact shell-model calculations for even numbers of identical nucleons (2 to 10) in these levels. The influence of the triplet- singlet strength ratio was examined by exact and BCS approximation calculations of ground-state wave functions. (D.C.W.)
