THE C$sup 14$(d,n)N$sup 15$ REACTION
The C/sup 14/(d,n)N/sup 15/ reaction was studied by observing the neutrons with time-of-flight techniques. Peaks are observed in the time-of- flight spectra corresponding to neutron groups which leave N/sup 16/ in the ground state, the unresolved 5.28 and 5.30 Mev states, the 6.33 Mev state, and the unresolved 7.16 and 7.31 Mev state. Using a 0.27 mg/cm/sup 2/-thick target enriched in C/sup 14/ to 17%, the excitation function for the ground-state group was measured at 30 deg for deuteron energies from 0.93 to 3.18 Mev. Broad peaks are observed in the yield curve at 1.3, 2.1, and 2.75 Mev, Angnlar distributions for the ground-state group were obtained from 0 deg to 150 deg at 1.31, 1.62, 2.10, 2.33, 2.75, and 3.08 Mev. Although the distributions are distinctly different at each energy, pronounced peaking in the backward direction is observed nt the four lowest energies. With better energy resolution, angular distributions were also measured for each of the above neutron groups at bombarding energies of 2.10 and 2.33 Mev. (auth)
