A STUDY OF SOME (t,p) REACTIONS. I. METHOD AND RESULTS FROM Li$sup 7$, B$sup 10$ AND B$sup 1$$sup 1$

Targets of /sup 7/Li, /sup 10/B, and /sup 11/B were bombarded with 10- and 11-Mev tritons, and angular distributions of the protons from the (t,p) reaction were measured. The Q-value for the /sup 7/Li(t,p)/sup 9/Li reaction was found to be -2.397 plus or minus 0.020 Mev, and the excitation energy of the first excited state 2.691 plus or minus 0.005 Mev. The ground-state proton distribution could only be fitted with plane wave double stripping theory if the two neutrons were assumed captured with a mixture of L = 0 and L = 2 orbital angular momenta. This is consistent with the expected spin-parity of 3/2 sup -/. Measurements of the proton distributions from /sup 10/B(t,p)/sup 12/B were made for the ground and first eleven excited states of /sup 12/B. Satisfactory agreement was obtained with plane wave theory expect for the ground state, which could not be accounted for by the required L = 2 transition. In cortrast the / sup 11/B(t,p)/sup 13/B ground state transition was well described by theory assuming L = 0. Nine excited states of /sup 13/B were also observed and information on the spins and parities for six of them were obtained. (auth)
