The elastic-plastic behavior of the tubular beam with damages of out-of-straight and local dents have been studied. The damaged member is divided into seven elements and an incremental-iterative computation procedure is employed to trace the shortening deformation, axial stiffness and stress at each axial compressive step. The effects of the damaged beam on the overall ultimate strength of structure has been discussed. By using the method of static condensation, the damaged beam is condensed into an equivalent element to perform the structural ultimate analysis. Several numerical examples have been worked out. By comparing the results with those of the experiments, the efficiency and the accuracy of the theory presented in the paper have been discussed.
