In lieu of the familiar stick-type construction, namely, using rafters, purlins, joists, beams, girders, and columns, space age modular space framed components are introduced for offshore platform constructions in this paper. For shallow platforms, where water depth is less than 300 feet, self-supporting tapered truncated conical structure may be of interest. In a deep water, where water depth is more than 1,000 feet, guyed-tower platform and tension-leg platform are considered to be most appropriate. Alternatively, semi-submerged modular offshore platform proposed by the author may be considered. Rigidly connected space components are stable components by virtue of their construction. Structures can be erected more efficiently and cost effectively by adopting modular space framed construction. Application of modular space framed constructions in both shallow and deep water are discussed.
