The results of measurements of the spin-lattice relaxation time T/sub 1/ of the /sup 19/F nuclei in crystalline XeF/sub 4/ at 30 Mc/sec over the temperature range 77 to 373 deg K are presented The plot is linear between 250 deg K and the melting point, indicating that the relaxation is dominated by a single type of thermally activated molecular motion. At low temperatures, however, the plot departs from linearity, and T/sub 1/ approaches a value of approximately 1000 sec at 77 deg K. The slope yields a value for the activation energy, E/sub a/, of 12.0 plus or minus 1.5 kcal/mole. (P.C.H.)
