Stability limits of the ion beam excited electrostatic ion cyclotron instability

The dispersion relation for low-frequency electrostatic waves was analyzed numerically to find the region of instability for an ion beam plasma versus beam velocity v/subb/, and versus electron to ion temperature ratio. For V/subb/>1.6 a the marginal unstable mode has a perpendicular wavenumber k/sub perpendicular/not-equal0. (AIP)
