SYSTEMATIC TRENDS IN HALF-LIVES OF BETA-DECAYING NUCLIDES

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.
Linear relationships between log T1/2 and A are shown to exist among neutron deficient Pb and Tl nucleides, if odd and even mass nunibers are taken separately and T1/2 is the pure beta half life. The same simple systematics is found to apply to numerous other series of altemate isotopes, neutron rich as well as neutron deficient, indicating its usefulness in predicting half lives. Attempts to establish the conditions for occurrence of these regularities meet with difficulties due to a lack of experimental data. The probable spin and parity dependence of the systematics may enable level assignments in certain cases of isomerism. (auth)
