PRESSURE VESSELS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4028415
A reactor pressure vessel is designed with a strengthened access hole region in order to reduce the number of fuel channels per access hole. The vessel comprises a basic section of spherical form greater than a hemisphere, a cap section thicker and of greater curvature than the basic section, a small joining section between the basic and cap sections, and access holes penetrating the cap section. Some typical dimensions of such a vessel are given; for these dimensions, it can withstand working pressures up to 300 psi, as compared to 218 psi for a non-thickened cap section. (D.L.C.)
