Title: Magic Nucleus S

Journal Article · · Physical Review Letters

Prompt and delayed {gamma} -ray cascades in doubly magic <hspace SPACE=''-0.167''>{sup 132}Sn and its neighbor <hspace SPACE=''-0.167''>{sup 131}Sn have been studied at Gammasphere using a <hspace SPACE=''-0.167''>{sup 248}Cm fission source. Isotopic assignments of unknown {gamma} rays were based on coincidences with known transitions in A=112--116 Pd fission partners. The yrast level spectra of both tin nuclei are interpreted using empirical nucleon-nucleon interactions from the <hspace SPACE=''-0.167''>{sup 132}Sn and <hspace SPACE=''-0.167''>{sup 208}Pb regions. Results include identification of the ({nu}f{sub 7/2} h{sup -1}{sub 11/2})9{sup +} aligned state in <hspace SPACE=''-0.167''>{sup 132}Sn and of extensive ({nu}f{sub 7/2} h{sup -2}{sub 11/2}) , ({nu}f{sub 7/2} d{sup -1}{sub 3/2} h{sup -1}{sub 11/2}) and ({nu}h{sup -1}{sub 11/2} x 3{sup -}) multiplets in <hspace SPACE=''-0.167''>{sup 131}Sn . The previously reported {beta}{sup -} decay of an unusual <hspace SPACE=''-0.167''>{sup 131}In high-spin isomer to levels in <hspace SPACE=''-0.167''>{sup 131}Sn is also elucidated.
