Polarizations of J/{psi} and {psi}' in Hadroproduction at the Tevatron in the k{sub t} Factorization Approach

We present a calculation for the polarizations of J/{psi} and {psi}' produced in the hadron collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron. Various color-octet channels including S{sup (8)}{sub 0}{sup 1}, P{sup (8)}{sub J}{sup 3}, and S{sup (8)}{sub 1}{sup 3} , as well as contributions from {chi}{sub cJ} decays are considered in the k{sub t} -factorization approach. We find that, in a rather wide range of the transverse momenta of J/{psi} and {psi}' , the production rates could be dominated by the S{sup (8)}{sub 0}{sup 1} channel, and the predicted polarizations from the S{sup (8)}{sub 0}<{sup 1} channel and {chi}{sub cJ} feed-down contributions are roughly compatible with the preliminary CDF data. This might provide a possible release from the conflict between the nonrelativistic QCD collinear parton model calculations and the CDF data.
