The pentacarbonyl derivatives, M(CO5)6+, (where M = Mn, Re and L = PMe2Ph, CH3CN, C5H5N) underwent oxygen 18 enrichment by reaction with H$sub 21$$sub 8$O in acetonitrile solvent. Ir spectrographic monitoring indicated preferential oxygen exchange at the equatorial CO ligand rather than at the axial ligand. Infrared spectra of $gamma$(CO) region at time intervals to T = 53 hours were presented, and the observation was made that oxygen exchange was faster for the Mn derivative than for the Re derivative.
