THEORY, MEASUREMENT AND MEANING OF THE ELECTRON CAPTURE-POSITRON EMISSION RATIO (in Hungarian)
From measurements of the specific properties of nuclear levels, the processes responsible for parity change and for the difference of impulse moments of the initial and final states can be determined. The importance of these phenomena in radioactive decay were examined. The review includes discussions of the following phenomena: BETA transitions, shape of the BETA spectrum, lifetime of the nuclear levels, internal conversions, angular correlations, orientation of the nucleus, branching relations of gamma radiation, internal bremsstrahlung, intensity of the electron capture ratio at various levels (L/K ratio), and the epsilon / BETA /sup +/ ratio. The methods employed may be used for both the BETA /sup +/ and the BETA /sup -/ decay of radioactive nuclei. Whenever the energy relations allow it, appearance of the positrons is always expected in the decay of radioactive materials but the relative number of positrons depends on the order number of the decaying nuclide, the magnitude of the total decay energy, and the value of the forbidden transitions. Determination of the sigma / BETA /sup +/ ratio is of importance not only to clarify the given decay scheme but also for checking the validity of the BETA decay theory and the wave function of atomic electrons and for establishing the forbidden character of a transition when the shape of the spectrum cannot be examined.
