Effects of whole-body irradiation of mice (400-r doses) on mitotic cycles in corneal and intestinal epithelia were investigated using H/sub 3/- thymidine autoradiography. It was found that the interphase period in corneal epithelium is 6.5 times that in intestinal epithelium. Radioinduced mitotic changes in G/sub 2/-M and G/sub 1/--S blocks and disturbances in DNA synthesis were observed in both tissues. During the restorative period the G/sub 2/--M biock recovers first, DNA synthesis is normalized next, and the G/sub 2/--S block recovers last. In corneal epithelium the above processes are slower than in the intestine. (R.V.J.)
