The possibility of achieving stimulated emission due to transitions between levels of paired CO$sub 2$ modes is considered theoretically. It is shown that the gain for the 03$sup 1$0--10$sup 0$0 transition may reach 0.006 cm$sup -1$ at T=150$sup 0$K if the CO$sub 2$:Ar composition is optimal (1:30) and the degree of ionization is n de/n/sub CO/2=3x10$sup -7$.
